If you stopped in for the Evil Twin tap takeover on Friday, you may have noticed a new addition to our store. A 55-gallon Two James Madeira Whiskey barrel has landed in the shop, and its contents are exciting!
The barrel was set up and filled with a Russian Imperial Stout from Motor City Brewing Works on Friday morning. The beer will age and develop in the barrel for a year before it is carbonated, kegged, and served up on our tap lines.
The 3-way collaboration beer, dubbed Ménage Dé Troit, will be available for quarterly tastings by 8 Degrees Plato customers and staff throughout the aging process. One keg will be aged for a second year before it is tapped. We envision this as an educational process. We will be “tasting” the beer each quarter during the two year period. The first tasting will be held Thursday, February 4th at 6:30. You will receive a tasting notes sheet that can be used through the entire aging process. At the end you’ll be able to see how you have tasted the changes made in the beer.
The collaboration between a distillery, a brewery, and a beer store is perhaps the first of its kind, and we can’t wait to share the delicious results with you.
If you’re ready for a full pint, a non-barrel aged version of the beer will be available at Motor City Brewing Works in February.
