Vernors, Detroit’s iconic ginger pop, celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. The fizzy, golden ginger drink got its start in a Woodward Avenue soda fountain, and, as the beverage’s popularity grew, a bottling plant and company headquarters were set up Downtown.
Vernors has since changed hands several times, but it is still bottled in Michigan, and its most loyal consumers are here in the Mitten State.
This week, Detroiters are toasting their famous local pop with Vernors inspired celebrations, recipes and cocktails. 8 Degrees Plato joins in the fun with a special cocktail, the Vernors Fizzy Liftin’ Drink. The cocktail features our JK’s Estate Reserve cider, which has been aged in Brandy Barrels for 4 years. A splash of Vernors adds that classic spicy ginger kick.
